Medical director Nana Janelidze – secular magazine of Georgia

An article about our clinic and questions from the Journalist to the medical director Nana Janelidze. In the most popular, secular magazine of Georgia.

We translated the most frequently asked and interesting questions to us and the answers from Dr. Nana Janelidze.

Tell us about the rebranding of the clinic – what has changed and what innovation was introduced?

We have a lot of pleasant news. In 2016, the clinic was merged with the VIVO Medical Group, which today is a leading medical institution. The clinic was renewed, which included infrastructure, internal standard, equipment, medical technologies, qualified doctors. The synthesis of old and new experiences has been made, which is very important for reproductive medicine.

Which unique and distinctive services distinguish the clinic on the Georgian market?

Reproductive medicine today is a leading direction, which is very rapidly progressing. The direction began to develop in the 1970s and today in vitro fertilization is considered as the top of reproductive medicine.

The key to success in this field is the professionalism of the doctor as well as the involvement of modern technologies. In the case of both sides, the result is called pregnancy. In our clinic the focus is on reproductive medicine and in vitro fertilization.

We are cooperating with the Spanish reproductive center in this direction. The diagnosis and treatment of problems related to infertility is provided in the clinic using the mentioned collaboration and international standards.

In vitro is a safe process of treatment. I also want to note that this is not a single procedure, but a treatment method. During in vitro fertilization, all the processes are performed as in natural fertilization cases. It’s just going out of the body and we have the opportunity to monitor the process. The process is safe because it is highly technological.

In Zhordania’s clinic, not only the technological side is the powerful but also the used material, protection of environmental conditions and hygiene conditions are taken into consideration for the full standard.

What kind of problems are revealed during the reproductive age? How should proper prevention and treatment be taken?

Family planning is very important in reproductive age. It means preliminary studies of pregnancy. It is desirable that a woman should take minimal tests before pregnancy to prevent complications. In addition to family planning, it is very important to have a correct assessment of reproductive health, to properly understand what potential the couple has in relation to reproduction. After proper assessment of it, the doctor’s adequate involvement is planned. If the problem is infertility and it is impossible to get pregnancy in physiological conditions, then It is decisive to set the right goals, studies and medical interventions are only aimed at preventing the patient from wasting time and getting the desired result – pregnancy.

We also treat gynecological infections, including gynecological pathologies, menstrual cycle discharge, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis. Endometriosis is a highly progressive disease, the paths and approaches of its treatment are constantly improving. Endometriosis should not deprive women the ability of having a child. There are cases when surgery is not needed, but doctors direct to surgery. After this, the ovarian reserve is so reduced that at very low rates it is possible to get pregnancy – even in the conditions of in vitro fertilization.

What is the relationship between a woman’s age and infertility?

Infertility mostly depends on the age of woman. What kind of problem there should be that causes infertility, a higher percentage of getting pregnancy is related to women’s age. Pregnancy in women under 30 is 70 percent is achievable. As age increases, the chance of pregnancy decreases. 35-39 age group chances are not higher than 35 percent. 42 years are a very critical period, even after the results of the in vitro fertilization are not more than 5 percent. Women’s age affects ovarian reserve. This means that reduction of ovarian reserve is directly proportionate to the number of follicles and eggs cells quality. Finally, it affects the number and quality of obtained embryos. In general, there is no limitation in the woman’s age for pregnancy. We cannot set a limit. The main thing here is to define the reproductive prognosis as it should not be based on the only human desire. The possibility should be in synthesis. In this process a big role is given to a doctor who will give the right information.

At what level do you have treatment with oncologic diseases in Zhordania’s clinic?

There are cases when our patients have cancer problems. The throat pathology cabinet also works with the principle that the removal and treatment of oncological diseases should occur on early stages and does not turn into tumor. If there is a problem that can not be solved and asks for additional medical care, we call oncologist consultants. On the basis of a joint consilium, a plan of treatment is formed. We work together with oncologists to allow patients to maintain their fertility. This means that it is possible to freeze and store sperm, egg cells and embryos. In this case, it is very important our and oncologists close communication and work, which gives the patient the opportunity to inspire the child from own genetics after treatment.
